Surfboards are functional sculptures. The best kind are done with intricate craftsmanship, unique quality materials and infinite attention to detail. It only makes sense that from time to time the surfboard is appreciated for reasons beyond how it performs in water, but for the style and aesthetic they can add to a space as an interior design piece.
Our marble collection in particular is often sought out and purchased for this very reason – regardless of the fact that they are fully functional. When we exhibited earlier this year at the prestigious Sydney venue Carriageworks as part of Semi Permanent, we decided to showcase our surfboards ‘as they are’ and as art, rather than ‘what they do’. We left out the connection to performance entirely. The surfboard is the single most crucial element of surfing; an iconic statue that represents the culture like the Oscar does film.
Recently we partnered with Witness Apartment by Trendland, a spectacular 2000 square foot concept loft in the heart of New York City showcasing a curation of the most wanted design and art objects for people to discover and purchase.
